The history of the family
The history of the family is known since the first half of XIX century, when a very poor, but "vol'nay" (free), peasant woman (and her son) came to the Prince Kurakin's country estate in the village of Bogorodetskoe (in Malo-Arkhangel'sky province of Orlovskaya region). The woman (together with her son) decided to becom a serf on her own will, aseshe could no longer bear the extreme poverty. Prince Kurakin, the landowner, has put the names of his serfs into the list as "Vol'nye" (free) (it became a nickname). Later it became the name of the family.
